ROUNDUP : Glendale Eliminated From Soccer Regional

Glendale College’s bid to advance to the men’s state soccer finals ended Saturday with a 2-1 loss to Irvine Valley in a Southern California regional final at Clark Community Center in La Crescenta.

Shawn Housmand scored the decisive goal in the second half for Irvine Valley (18-3-2). Piero Mendiola scored the only goal of the first half, and Mario Bermudez scored the only goal for Glendale (10-10-1) in the second half.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Cal State Sacramento 74, Cal State Northridge 50--Three Sacramento players scored in double figures as the Matadors (0-3) fell in the second game of round-robin play in the Wolf Pack Thanksgiving tournament at Reno.

The Matadors fell behind early and trailed, 38-21, at halftime.

Shagarro Lattin, a senior forward from Birmingham High, scored a team-high 13 points for Northridge. Dawn Broline added 10 points.

Ventura 54, Fullerton 46--Cori Herman scored a game-high 14 points to help Ventura (5-0) beat visiting Fullerton (4-2) in a nonconference game.

Ventura led, 31-24, at halftime and never trailed thereafter. Jamie Mayde scored 12 points for Ventura and Erica Probasco added 10.

Harbor 102, Pierce 38--Bridgette Williams scored a game-high 35 points and teammate Kim Young added 32 points, 10 rebounds and six assists as host Harbor (5-1) cruised to a nonconference win. Marie Vasquez scored a team-high 14 points for Pierce, which scored just seven points in the first half.

Palomar 69, Glendale 64--Glendale (1-3) squandered a 10-point second-half lead in a second-round game of the Mt. San Jacinto tournament. Lisa Bjornberg led Glendale with 22 points, Denise DalPonte had 12 and Patty Montoya added 10.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

The Master’s 65, St. Thomas 55--Forward Tom Bruner scored 18 points to lead the Mustangs (3-2) past winless St. Thomas (0-3) in a nonconference game at Master’s.

The Mustangs led, 28-26, at halftime, then pulled away. Jason Webster added 14 points.

Oxnard 81, Victor Valley 57--Atherly Cameron led host Oxnard (3-4) with 16 points in a nonconference game.

Malik Williams (15 points), Tony Ziuraitis (11) and Shawn Talley (11) also helped the Condors, who led at halftime, 40-21.

BOYS’ WRESTLING

Harvard-Westlake Five-Way tournament--Heavyweight Josh Minuto and Greg Brown (171 pounds) each pinned all four opponents to help Harvard to a 4-0 record and the tournament title. Harvard’s Stan Kang (119 pounds) and Jamin Seid (140 pounds) also each won four matches.

Chaminade (3-1 in the tournament) finished second.
