Another Quake Jolts County

Share

An earthquake jolted San Diego Tuesday night, only 13 hours after the region was shaken by one in Mexico.

The second quake--of 4.2 magnitude--struck at 11:10 p.m. and was centered 11 miles west of Julian, said Robert Finn, spokesman for Caltech in Pasadena. The quake is believed to have been unrelated to the earlier one that was centered near Ensenada.

In fact, two other quakes also struck Southern California within 24 hours. One quake, registering a 2.6, struck at 5:38 p.m. Tuesday 7 miles southwest of Palm Springs. The other--of 4.0 magnitude--occurred at 12:16 a.m. Wednesday, 6 miles southwest of Big Bear Lake.

“It’s a coincidence,” Finn said. “There are 11,000 earthquakes in Southern California every year.”
