Auto Dealership Deadline Extended

Share

The sluggish economy has forced the Redevelopment Agency to extend the deadline for Chrysler Corp. to begin constructing two dealerships in the city’s new auto mall.

Council members voted unanimously last week to extend the deadline to Oct. 1, 1992, when Chrysler is to have started work on new Dodge and Plymouth dealerships. The auto mall opened earlier this year on the east end of the city.

Already, Chrysler has agreed to penalties for delaying the projects, including a reduction in sales tax revenues the city will return to the dealerships when they move in. The corporation faces further penalties in land costs if it delays the projects further.
