A Torrance police officer shot at a Yorba Linda man as he allegedly tried to run the officer down outside a check-cashing business Thursday, police said.

Derrick Lamarr Mitchell, 24, of Yorba Linda was waiting in a car outside Anykind Check Cashing at 3025 Artesia Blvd., while Regina Janell Daily, 20, of Los Angeles, was inside trying to cash a stolen check, police said.

As an officer approached Mitchell about 10:45 a.m., Mitchell sped toward the officer, slightly injuring him as he jumped out of the way, said Sgt. Jeff Burden. The officer fired once, shattering the left rear window. Mitchell was not hit, but his left arm was cut by flying glass, Burden said. Daily was arrested at the scene and Mitchell was taken into custody nearby about five minutes later, police said.
