Downey Riles Readers (Again)
Mike Downey’s final column from the Winter Olympics, Feb. 23, was intended to be humorous and perhaps it was to some people. I believe most found it in poor taste.
I wonder what Mike was doing all this time in Albertville that he did not know that the Baltic republics competed under their own flags and were not part of the Unified Team.
It is true that Lithuania and the other Baltic states did not win any medals, but Lithuanian athletes finished in the middle or better in many events. These Baltic athletes and their nations were very proud to participate in the Olympics after many years of absence.
