Pickup Flips, Killing Driver, Injuring Man
A motorist was killed and his passenger injured Saturday afternoon when their pickup flipped over on the San Diego Freeway just north of Beach Boulevard. The wreck caused a massive traffic jam on the busy freeway.
Authorities said the driver and passenger were both ejected from the cab of the pickup as the vehicle overturned. The truck was pulling a trailer that had begun wobbling, investigators said. The accident occurred about 2:20 p.m.
According to the Orange County coroner’s office, the fatally injured driver was a 27-year-old man from Long Beach. His name was withheld pending notification of next of kin. The passenger, identified only as a man, suffered minor injuries, authorities said.
