SPORTS ON WEEKEND TV : NHL Playoffs Feature the Kings

This is the weekend that the Kings open the Stanley Cup playoffs, CBS starts its baseball coverage and the Lakers close out what could be their first non-playoff season since 1976.

Pro Hockey: Prime Ticket will carry Game 1 of the NHL Smythe Division semifinals between the Edmonton Oilers and the Kings tonight at 7:30. SportsChannel will air a replay at 11 p.m. SportsChannel will also show the Detroit Red Wings-Minnesota North Stars game today at 4:30 p.m.

Baseball: CBS (Channels 2 and 8) will air its first baseball game of the season at 10 a.m. today between the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals. Sean McDonough will make his debut as the network’s play-by-play announcer. Tonight’s Atlanta Braves-Dodgers game can be seen on TBS at 7, but the game is subject to blackout. Sunday’s game will begin at 5 p.m on ESPN. The Angels will play the Kansas City Royals on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. on KTLA Channel 5.

Pro Basketball: The NBA’s regular season will end with two Laker telecasts--today against the Portland Trail Blazers at 12:30 p.m. on NBC (Channels 4, 36 and 39), and Sunday against the Clippers at 7:30 p.m. on KCOP Channel 13 and Prime Ticket.
