COUNTYWIDE : Calleguas to Dip Into Lake Bard Reservoir
About 485,000 Ventura County residents may notice a slightly different taste, smell or color in their water starting Sunday when the Calleguas Municipal Water District dips into its Lake Bard reservoir.
The change in water supply will last 11 days while the Metropolitan Water District replaces a line feeding Los Angeles and inspects pipelines of the California Aqueduct for structural weaknesses, MWD spokesman Rob Hallwachs said.
The change will affect all MWD customers in Ventura County.
Officials said Lake Bard meets all state and federal criteria for drinking water.
Lake Bard now has 10,000 acre-feet of water, and estimates are that it will drop 2,700 to 3,000 acre-feet by the end of the 11-day shutdown, said David Bustamante, operations supervisor for Calleguas.
In the case of an emergency that prolongs the shutdown, Bustamante said the cities of Camarillo and Oxnard, as well as the Ventura County Waterworks District and the Camrosa Water District, can switch over to their wells.
