Australia’s Phil Anderson became the first double stage winner, and Greg LeMond narrowed his deficit over race leader Stephen Swart of New Zealand in the seventh stage of the Tour Du Pont at Hot Springs, Va.

Anderson, the 1991 Tour of Britain winner, edged Bobby Julich, U.S. national team member from Glenwood Springs, Colo., by half a bike length in the 86.2-mile road race. Anderson’s time was 3 hours 46 minutes 58 seconds.

LeMond, of Wayzata, Minn., placed third in the same time. But the three-time Tour de France winner gained four bonus time seconds and trails Swart by eight seconds overall.
