GOLD BOUND: Vicki Toutz, above, had good reason to turn to badminton in the 1960s. . . . “Women didn’t have a lot of opportunities in college sports then,” she says. “Badminton was available recreationally. I found out I loved it.” After a 32-year career coaching badminton and teaching at Garden Grove High School, Toutz will head for Barcelona next month to coach the U.S. badminton team. “They’ve sent me a packet the size of ‘Gone With the Wind’ to read, but I can’t wait,” she says.
