Nevin Has 2 Homers, 4 RBIs for Team USA
Former Cal State Fullerton third baseman Phil Nevin, baseball’s No. 1 draft pick this year, hit a pair of two-run homers Thursday night to lead Team USA past Japan, 8-4, in a pre-Olympic game.
Nevin, who has signed with the Houston Astros, had three hits and four RBIs.
Jeff Granger (1-0) picked up the victory, while Darren Dreifort of Wichita State allowed no runs and one hit over 2 2/3 innings for the save.
Ryan McGuire and Craig Wilson also hit home runs for Team USA, and Chris Wimmer added two hits.
Thursday’s attendance of 6,793 at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium in Wichita was the largest crowd thus far on the Team USA tour.
