Motorists Register Their Shock Over Whopping License Renewal Fee Hike
I recently received the application to renew the license on my wife’s 1974 automobile and was shocked to see that the fee is now $111. It was $59 for 1988, 1989, 1990 and 1991. That’s an increase of about 89%!
Doesn’t the state realize that every time it increases taxes, it loses more taxpayers? As for us, we will sell the car at the earliest opportunity. That’s one more “fee” lost.
I am seeing more and more cars with expired licenses and I see no effort by the DMV to collect the money due. I also see cars with Illinois, Texas and Oregon plates driven daily by people who live nearby. I won’t squeal on them, but I sure wouldn’t be unhappy if a way could be figured out to make them pay their fair share.
