SANTA ANA : Pedestrian Hit in Drive-By Shooting
A 20-year-old man was shot in the back Tuesday when a gunman in a car opened fire on a group of pedestrians, police said.
Jorge Rubalcava was walking with 10 other people along Chestnut Avenue near Oak Street when four people drove past in a large gray car, police said.
It was not known what led to the 4:07 p.m. shooting, but a gunman inside the car fired six times with a .380-caliber semiautomatic handgun, hitting Rubalcava once.
Rubalcava was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, where he was in surgery late Tuesday.
Police, who said they did not know if the shooting was gang-related, were looking for the car, but did not have anyone in custody late Tuesday. However, police said they were interviewing a 17-year-old male in connection with the shooting.
