Grant 9, Van Nuys 6--Aaron Kauffman’s 32-yard field goal with 3:52 left gave the Lancers (2-4, 2-2) an upset victory at Valley College.
It was Grant’s second consecutive upset, following last week’s 10-6 win over Poly.
Kauffman’s field goal was set up when Grant’s Raul Sahagun blocked a Van Nuys punt, and Carlos Enriquez recovered at the Van Nuys 22.
Van Nuys (5-2, 3-1) opened the scoring when Efrain Martinez intercepted a pass by Grant quarterback Raymond Singleton and returned the ball 48 yards for a touchdown late in the first quarter.
Grant (2-4-1, 2-2) tied the score late in the third quarter when Singleton connected with Michael Portillo for a six-yard touchdown pass.
