From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Airlines Cancel, Delay Fare Hikes: United Airlines canceled plans to raise fares up to $40 for passengers who do not purchase tickets in advance, and American Airlines said it would delay an increase of up to $30 on trips that require connections. Both airlines proposed the fare increases earlier this month and had delayed them several times. Competitors have balked at matching the increases. United had planned to raise prices $10 to $40 on unrestricted tickets. The increase would have affected every domestic route the carrier flies. American delayed its increase from today to Dec. 1.
