NEWBURY PARK : Man Sues Ex-Wife Over Knife Attack
A Newbury Park man has filed a lawsuit against his ex-wife for injuries he suffered last year when she attacked him in his sleep and slashed him in the groin with a knife.
Steven Mizell, 36, filed the lawsuit in Ventura County Superior Court on Wednesday against Kimly Mizell, 44, for an unspecified amount of money.
The attack occurred Nov. 18, 1991, while Mizell was sleeping in the couple’s home. He told police that he woke up about 3 a.m. after feeling pain in his groin and was covered with blood. He drove himself and his then-wife to Westlake Medical Center.
Kimly Mizell pleaded no contest to assault with a deadly weapon on March 23. On May 26 she was placed on probation for five years and ordered to serve 120 days in Ventura County Jail.
Steven Mizell said they were having marital problems when the attack occurred. Deputy Dist. Atty. Jim Grunert said Kimly Mizell was having emotional problems at the time and didn’t remember the attack.
