LONDON —
One of Britain’s water utilities may adopt a recycling method that promises to turn raw sewage into fake pearls suitable for costume jewelry.
A spokesman for Southern Water said the company is exploring a Japanese method for turning sewage into a material called metro-marble.
Southern Water said it wants to promote the gemstones through a British jewelry chain that made headlines last year when its chairman described one of its mass-selling products as essentially worthless.
