San Diego : Plea Is Guilty for Biting Off Nose

Share

A Normal Heights woman pleaded guilty Friday to biting off the nose of her common law husband during an argument last week.

Teresa Newcomb, 31, entered the guilty plea in San Diego Municipal Court to one count of spousal abuse before Judge Ann P. Winebrenner. In exchange for the plea, charges of mayhem and assault with a deadly weapon were dropped.

Her husband, Robert Decottignies, told police he and Newcomb had been out drinking at a bar Nov. 8, when she became upset and slapped him. Decottignies walked home and locked himself in the bedroom, according to police reports.

When Newcomb arrived, she broke open the bedroom door and attacked Decottignies with a knife, police said. The pair struggled and Newcomb bit off part of his nose, police said.

Under terms of the plea agreement, Newcomb probably will not serve any more jail time and instead be placed on probation provided she agrees to enroll in a domestic violence counseling program, abstain from alcohol and drugs and stay away from her husband, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Cynthia Windsor. A probation and sentencing hearing is scheduled Dec. 22.

Windsor said Decottignies’ nose is healing after requiring 75 stitches to reattach it.
