VENTURA : Fire Kills Dog Locked Inside Car
A pet dog locked inside a car at the County Government Center in Ventura died Wednesday when the car caught fire while the car’s owner was in court, authorities said.
The doors were locked, but one window was partly open to provide ventilation for the dog, officials said.
County employees reacted with alarm at the sight of the animal trapped inside the blazing car, but attempts to reach the Labrador mix were unsuccessful. A district attorney’s investigator received burns on his forehead when he tried to open the car door, a county official said.
