2 Babies Found Dead in Homes Blocks Apart

Two infants were found dead in their cribs in South-Central Los Angeles on Sunday, but authorities said the deaths in roughly the same neighborhood and only 12 minutes apart were apparently unrelated.

“I’ve never seen anything like it,” said Los Angeles Police Lt. David Rock.

Coroner’s investigator Michael Riddle said 3-month-old Lucia Olmos was found dead about 7:30 a.m. at her parents’ home in the 600 block of East 40th Place. One-month-old David Lopez was discovered later at his parents’ home in the 500 block of East 60th Street.

Riddle said there was no sign of violence against either child and that the deaths may have been from sudden infant death syndrome. Autopsies are scheduled for today.
