VENTURA : City to Apply for Housing Money
The city of Ventura has decided to apply for a $1-million federal grant to help low-income residents and homeless shelters.
The Ventura City Council on Monday authorized a grant application for funds that would be used to give loans to low-income families who own homes that need repair or expansion because of crowding.
Some of the money would also go toward funding two proposed homeless shelter projects.
The federal grant would come from the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and $1 million is the maximum amount for which the city can apply.
City officials said they didn’t know when they would be notified about how much money, if any, the city would receive.
