PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAMS : They Are Lacking in Their Sacking

Although the Rams sacked Green Bay quarterback Brett Favre three times in last Sunday’s loss to the Packers, two were by safety Michael Stewart on blitzes.

Coach Chuck Knox acknowledges that the Rams, who have 29 sacks this season, haven’t had much help from the defensive linemen and linebackers recently.

In the last nine games, the Rams have only 14 sacks. Linebacker Kevin Greene leads the team with nine sacks, but has recorded only one since Nov. 1.

“It’s been inconsistent,” Knox said of the pass rush. “It’s not what we would like it to be. (But) I still think we’ve got more sacks than we got last year.

“A lot of good things have been happening, but they don’t show up in that won-loss record.”

Last season, the Rams had 17 sacks.

The lineup for the Pro Bowl will be announced today and the Rams could be without a representative for the second consecutive season--after having at least one player on the squad every year before 1991.
