COLLEGE BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Canyons Trounces Valley to Register 11th Consecutive Victory
College of the Canyons knocked out 18 hits Thursday in notching their 11th consecutive victory, a 17-9 decision over host Valley in a Western State Conference baseball game.
Andy Shaw was four for four with a double and a home run, and Chris Pfatenhaurer (triple) and Kirk Sellows (two doubles) each had three hits for the Cougars (12-2, 9-0 in WSC play).
John Augular and Ted Kiester hit three-run homers.
Kevin Grant posted four innings of one-hit pitching in his first appearance of the year for the save and Cody Beaumaster (2-1) got the victory.
Glendale 6, Ventura 5--After scoring two runs in the bottom of the ninth, the host Pirates had the bases loaded and none out but couldn’t capitalize and fell in a WSC game.
A triple by Brian Vail in the fourth inning knocked in two runs to give Glendale a 4-0 lead. John Nall earned the win, striking out six.
Pierce 14, Santa Monica 0--Freshman right-hander Steve Pack pitched a seven-hitter, striking out seven.
Josh Smaler was four for four with two runs batted in. Bryan Corey, who hit a home run and double a day earlier, had three hits and three runs batted in for the Brahmas (6-8, 4-5).
Bakersfield 10, Oxnard 9 (10 inn.)--The host Renegades scored a run in the 10th in a WSC game.
Rich Tepezano had three hits for Oxnard (3-12, 1-8).
L.A. City 6, Mission 5--Raul Flores was three for five with two RBIs for visiting Mission, but the Free Spirit failed to hold a 5-2 eighth-inning lead in a Southern California Athletic Conference game.
The loss snapped Mission’s four-game winning streak.
