OJAI : Girl Found in Pool in Critical Condition

Share

An 18 month-old girl was in critical condition Thursday evening after nearly drowning in a pool in Ojai, authorities said.

The toddler was discovered by a neighbor at the bottom of the pool about 5 p.m., Ventura County Firefighter Mike Eul said.

When a rescue crew arrived, the girl was not breathing and had no pulse, said Stephen Frank, a paramedic involved in the rescue. Frank said he injected a drug that stimulated the girl’s heart, and she was rushed to Ojai Valley Community Hospital, where she was put on a life support system. She was then taken by helicopter to Valley Presbyterian Hospital in Van Nuys.

The toddler, identified by a hospital spokeswoman as Jenelle Pulley of Twenty-nine Palms, was visiting the house on Bonmark Drive when the incident occurred.

Pulley’s mother arrived at the same time as firefighters from the Meiners Oaks station, Eul said. “She was frantic.”

“The baby is not out of the woods,” Frank said. “Infants can do remarkable things, but there is a lot to be done in this case.”
