Union Workers Locked Out of Illinois Plant: A.E. Staley Manufacturing Co. kept workers out of its corn-milling plant in Decatur, Ill., prompting union threats to intensify a boycott of products made by Staley’s British parent firm, Tate & Lyle. Allied Industrial Workers Local 837 President Dave Watts said the company had 160 workers escorted from the plant at 3 a.m. Sunday. Staley Executive Vice President J. Patrick Mohan said union actions to harm production and endanger the environment and physical assets have made normal operations impossible as a bitter contract feud has escalated. The union denied the allegations.
