MONTALVO : Train Derailment Under Investigation
Southern Pacific railroad officials are investigating the cause of a minor train derailment in Montalvo on Friday that slowed traffic on the Ventura Freeway but did not obstruct the main coastal rail route.
The incident occurred about noon near the Johnson Drive overpass on a spur track used for runs between Oxnard, Montalvo and Santa Paula. An engine connected to the boxcar and caboose did not derail.
No one was injured and the boxcar’s cargo was not damaged, said Carolynne Born, a spokeswoman for Southern Pacific.
