County Surfer Wins in Virginia
Shane Stoneman of San Juan Capistrano won the East Coast Surfing Championships, his first Bud Pro Tour title, Sunday at Virginia Beach, Va.
In waves reaching four feet--large by Virginia Beach standards--Stoneman defeated Wes Laine of Virginia Beach, Adam Replogle of Santa Cruz and Dean Randazzo of Ocean City, N.J. It was the first time Stoneman had reached a Bud Pro final.
With the $4,000 first prize, Stoneman, 21, moved into fourth place on the Bud Pro season earnings list at $6,575. He trails Rob Machado, Chris Brown and Taylor Knox, each of whom skipped the event this weekend in favor of an Assn. of Surfing Professionals’ event in France.
