American Airlines Gets Waiver to Train Attendants: The carrier, anticipating a flight attendants strike later this month, has received a waiver allowing it to shorten training time for replacement workers. The waiver, from the Federal Aviation Administration, allows the airline to train new flight attendants in eight days, rather than the 19-day minimum previously allowed, a spokesman for the Assn. of Professional Flight Attendants said. The union has said it will strike on or before Nov. 22 if agreement cannot be reached on a new contract with American.
