Efficiency Sought

Share

I attempted to avail myself of the county-sponsored hazardous waste collection center on Oct. 30, at the fairgrounds. Upon arrival I found 200 or more cars ahead of me. Not willing to spend the best part of my Saturday afternoon inching forward in line, I and my used motor oil returned home.

The collection effort, while commendable, must be efficient to be effective. In spite of the associated costs, if household hazardous wastes are to be kept out of the landfills, a workable collection system must be put in place.

Sporadic and overloaded special collections are simply too frustrating and time consuming.
