Roosevelt 52, Reseda 49--With its two Division I recruits nursing injuries on the bench, Reseda made three mistakes in the game’s final six seconds, losing to the visiting Roughriders, 52-49, in a City 3-A quarterfinal playoff game Friday at Birmingham High. Mario Hernandez led Roosevelt with 20 points. Verbum Dei 82, St. Monica 51--Forward Andre Smith scored a game-high 21 points to lead Verbum Dei in a Southern Section 4-A quarterfinal game Friday at Santa Monica High School. Guard Deon Williams chipped in 18 points for the Eagles. Crenshaw 139, Los Angeles 51--Crenshaw’s trio of Kris Johnson, Tremaine Fowlkes and Reggie McFerren combined for 87 points Wednesday in a City Section 4-A quarterfinal game at Crenshaw. Los Angeles was led by forward Keyshon Edwards’ 14-point performance. Loyola 91, Warren 78--Loyola made 26-of-33 free throws and out-rebounded Warren, 33-13, in a Southern Section Division I-A quarterfinal game Tuesday at Downey High School.
Seniors Toby Bailey and Edwin Cannady scored 26 of the Cubs’ 32 first-quarter points. Bailey lead all scorers with 38 points and snared 16 rebounds, while Cannady added 20 points.
