PREP ROUNDUP : Esperanza, El Toro’s Garner Win at Golf Tournament

El Toro’s Ben Garner was the medalist and Esperanza won the team title at the Riverside Poly Golf Classic Monday at Victoria Country Club in Riverside.

Garner shot one-under-par 71. Esperanza’s Chris Berry shot 72 to lead the Aztecs, who won with a team total of 407.

Prep golf--In Tuesday’s edition of The Times Orange County, it should have been reported that Trabuco Hills (411) finished second to Esperanza (407) at the Riverside Poly Golf Classic.

Huntington Beach (412) was second, Dana Hills (414) third and Riverside Poly (415) fourth.

Jason Eynon of Trabuco Hills shot 76 and Jeff Farley of Huntington Beach 77.

On the first day of the British Columbia tournament:

Western 408, Victoria (B.C.) Lambrick 420, Victoria (B.C.) Mt. Douglas 462--Tiger Woods shot one-over 73 to lead Western at at Olympic View Golf Club on Vancouver Island. David Dawson shot 77 for Western (4-3, 1-1).

In nonleague golf:

Valencia 425, Los Amigos 430--Matt Stafford shot six-over 78 for Los Amigos (10-2) at Mile Square. Matt Campbell, Eric Lama, Tony Brunetti and Travis Ridge each shot 84 for Valencia (5-2).

In the Righetti softball tournament:

Villa Park 3, Santa Maria Righetti 0--Mindy Smith singled in two runs in the fourth inning for Villa Park (8-4). Smith went two for three. Teammate Dawn Kobata drove in the Spartans’ other run with a two-out single in the third. Pitcher Tammy Kincaid struck out four and walked none.

Sonora 3, Dos Pueblos 0--Cindy Cook had a no-hitter through 6 1/3 innings but settled for a two-hitter for Sonora (6-7). Sonora also lost to host Righetti, 3-2, on Monday. Michelle Rodriguez had four hits in the two games, and Jennifer Brown added three hits and three RBIs.

In nonleague softball:

Capistrano Valley 14, Estancia 2 (6, mercy)--Jodi Morris had three hits, scored two runs and had two RBIs for Capistrano Valley (6-4). Ashli Barr had three hits and two runs scored.

In Garden Grove League boys’ tennis:

La Quinta 15 2/3, Santiago 5 1/3--Junior Chuong Pham swept in singles, 6-3, 7-5, 6-2, for La Quinta (7-1, 3-0).

In the South Coast League:

Dana Hills 17 2/3, Woodbridge 3 1/3--Lead by their three doubles teams, the second-ranked Dolphins defeated fifth-ranked Woodbridge. The No. 1 doubles team of Mike Baxi and Justin Rimel swept its sets, 6-3, 6-0, 7-6, for the Dolphins (9-1).
