COLLEGE SIGNING ROUNDUP : Woodbridge’s Oenning to Sign With UCLA
Woodbridge High’s Jamie Oenning will become the first girls’ Division I college basketball player from the school when she signs today with UCLA.
Oenning, a first team Times’ All-County selection who averaged 13.5 points, 4.7 assists and shot 47% from the field, led Woodbridge to a 32-1 record and the State Division II finals.
With Oenning as the team’s only senior starter, Woodbridge won the Southern Section Division II-AA girls’ title.
Today is the first day of the late period for signing letters of intent. The late period lasts through Aug. 1.

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, which will play Division I next season, will get two Magnolia boys’ basketball players. Frank Henderson, a 6-3 off guard who averaged 17.1 points, and Brandon Hearvey, a 6-6 forward who averaged 15.1 points, will sign letters of intent today, Sentinel Coach Al Walin said Tuesday.

Donnie Bladow and Juan Garcia, who have led Rancho Santiago in rushing yards the last two seasons, said they will play football at four-year colleges next fall.
Bladow, a 5-11, 215-pound fullback who ran for 920 yards and eight touchdowns last season at Villa Park, plans to play at Redlands. Garcia, a 5-11, 185-pound tailback from Century High, is among the first recruits at Chapman, which will field its first football team since 1932 in the fall.

Orange Coast College basketball player Todd Loewe has committed to play next season at Mesa State, a Division II school in Grand Junction, Colo.
Loewe, an All-Southern Section selection at Woodbridge High in 1992, chose Mesa State over Colorado Christian, Seattle Pacific, Alaska Anchorage, Alaska Fairbanks, Southern California College, Westmont, Redlands and Whittier.
Loewe, a 6-foot-2 guard, will play point guard at Mesa.

Saddleback College pitcher Dennis Crine announced that he will sign an intent letter to play for the Miami Hurricanes, ranked fifth in the latest Baseball America poll.
Crine, who graduated from Basic High in Henderson, Nev., has compiled a 6-4 record this season for Saddleback with one save and a 2.06 earned-run average. Last season, Crine was 5-3 with two saves and a 4.61 ERA.
