Miscellany

In an attempt to crack down on increased violence at athletic events, the Southern Section is considering tough legislation for next year.

The section’s council will vote Thursday on two rules that would penalize coaches and athletes who participate in fights. Any player, in the game or on the bench, who takes part in a fight would sit out the next game. Coaches also would skip a game for fighting.

“I expect some debate on the punishment for coaches,” said Dean Crowley, Southern Section commissioner. “But we need to address the sportsmanship issue.”

Cal State Northridge has scheduled an auction to benefit its athletic program on Saturday at the Warner Center Marriott Hotel in Woodland Hills. Items up for auction include vacation packages, sports memorabilia and tickets to various Southland sporting events.

The silent auction begins at 6 p.m. The live auction starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25.
