SMALL BUSINESS : Local Success Stories Will Be Celebrated at Luncheon Today

Next week is Small Business Week, a time to honor the role that small companies play in both employment and services.

But the federal Small Business Administration and the Orange County Chamber of Commerce & Industry will get a head start today with a luncheon honoring a number of successful local business people.

Honorees include Mark Press, president of Gold Coast Baking Co. in Santa Ana; Judee Slack of Slack & Associates accounting firm in Fountain Valley; the Elena Nunez and Associates accounting firm in Fullerton; and John Hall, president of guitar maker Rickenbacker International Corp. in Santa Ana.

The luncheon will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the Westin South Coast Plaza Hotel in Costa Mesa. Tickets are $39.50 at the door.

The Santa Ana Economic Development Corp. will mark the small business community’s contributions May 5 with a breakfast to award members of the city’s business community.

The agency will name accounting firm owner Jo Ann Rayfield the city’s entrepreneur of the year; Bank of America, which over the past two years has provided Orange County businesses nearly $3 million in financing through its participation in an SBA loan program, will be honored as lender of the year; IBM Corp., a business partner with Saddleback High School since 1988, has been selected for the “business and education linkage contributor” award.

The breakfast will be at the Turnip Rose restaurant, 3 Imperial Promenade, in Santa Ana. The cost is $20 in advance and $25 at the door. For more information, call the Santa Ana Economic Development Corp. at (714) 647-6987.
