PREP BASEBALL : Lakewood Advances to Final
Third baseman Andrea Camou hit a two-run double in the fifth inning to break open a close game and lead Lakewood to a 6-3 victory over Sherman Oaks Notre Dame in a Southern Section Division I semifinal at Blair Field in Long Beach.
With his team clinging to a 3-2 lead, Camou doubled to left field to help the Lancers (24-6) pull away. He finished with three RBIs.
Lakewood, ranked No. 3 by The Times, will play Fountain Valley, a 4-1 winner over Crescenta Valley, in the final Friday night at Blair Field.
Steve Immel pitched five innings for Lakewood to improve his record to 9-1.
Riverside North 4, No. 14 Oxnard Rio Mesa 1--Pitcher Larrie Bowen gave up four hits and struck out seven in 6 1/3 innings to lead North (17-11) in a Division II game at Ventura College. Justin Solis relieved Bowen and retired Steve Arneson and Chad Snyder to record his fifth save.
No. 11 West Torrance 10, Whittier La Serna 4--After giving up a third-inning grand slam that tied the score at 4-4, junior right-hander David Delgado gave up two hits the rest of the way and the Warriors (25-6) pulled away in a Division III game at El Segundo Recreation Park.
No. 4 Westminster La Quinta 4, No. 18 Corona 3--Steve Combs drove in the tying run and picked up his second save to lead La Quinta (27-3) in a Division III game at Norco High.
