OXNARD : Officer Wounds Man Pointing Gun
An unidentified 35-year-old transient was shot and injured early Monday after pointing an unloaded handgun at an Oxnard police officer, authorities said.
The man, who suffered wounds to his legs and left shoulder, was shot after a struggle with Officer James Flores about 1:30 a.m. in the 200 block of Roderick Avenue, near A Street. The man underwent surgery at St. John’s Regional Medical Center and was listed in serious condition Monday afternoon, police said.
Flores, 23, who has been with the Oxnard Police Department less than a year, was on patrol when he noticed a bicyclist who was “acting suspicious,” Sgt. Cliff Troy said.
Flores, who previously had worked at the Port Hueneme Police Department, was put on routine paid administrative leave while police continue their investigation.
