Bullfrogs Light It Up Late, Beat the Blades : Roller hockey: They score four goals in fourth to win, 9-6, at Anaheim. Game 2 of playoff series is tonight at Forum.

The Bullfrogs have found their On switch.

They scored four goals in the fourth quarter to break open a close game and beat the Blades, 9-6, in a Roller Hockey International playoff game before 8,310 Tuesday night at The Pond. Yuri Krivokhija and Victor Gervais each scored twice for the Bullfrogs.

The teams will play Game 2 of the Pacific Division finals at 7:30 tonight at the Forum. If the Bullfrogs win Game 2, they advance to the Western Conference finals.

If the Blades win, the teams will play a 12-minute mini-game immediately following Game 2 to determine the series winner.

“It’ll be another barn-burner tomorrow,” Blades Coach Bobby Hull Jr. said. “We knew it was going to be a war. We broke down at a couple of points and Anaheim played well. They deserved to win tonight.”

Since the playoffs began last week, the Bullfrogs have looked more like the invincible RHI champions of 1993. Last season, the Bullfrogs rolled through the league, winning 17 of 18 games. This season, they rolled over down the stretch, winning only once in their last six games to finish third in the division while the Blades finished first.

But the playoffs have been a different story.

Gervais, who has seven goals in three playoff games, started off the Bullfrogs by scoring on a first-quarter power play. Krivokhija provided the finishing kick.

Krivokhija tied the score, 4-4, notching a goal with 2 minutes 47 seconds remaining in the third. He gave the Bullfrogs the lead for good, breaking a 5-5 tie by scoring a goal with 9:15 remaining.

And the Bullfrogs got contributions from everyone.

Scoring insurance goals in the fourth quarter were Kevin Kerr, who had a goal and an assist, Darren Perkins, who had a goal and two assists, and Savo Mitrovic, who had a goal.

Joe Cook, Rick Judson, and Steve Beadle each had two assists, and goalie Rob Laurie continued his strong play, making 27 saves Tuesday night to win his third consecutive playoff game this season.

And the Bullfrogs finally got something past Blades goalie Max Mikhailovsky, who was named most valuable player and goaltender of the year by the RHI earlier Tuesday.

Mikhailovsky had 97 saves in the Blades’ two previous victories over the Bullfrogs. He stopped only 31 of 40 shots Tuesday night.

Steve Wilson had two goals and two assists to lead the Blades.

After leading Los Angeles to the Pacific Division title, Blades Coach Bobby Hull Jr., a resident of Seal Beach, was named Western Conference Coach of the Year. . . . RHI President Dennis Murphy presented a plaque to Bullfrogs owners Maury Silver and his sons, Nelson and Stuart, honoring the club for leading the league in attendance. The Bullfrogs averaged 10,155 in 11 regular-season games at The Pond. . . . Bullfrogs forward Ken Murchison missed Tuesday’s game because of a hand injury, Coach Grant Sonier said. His status is day-to-day.
