RUFFLED FEATHERS?: Is this an Eagles reunion tour or a farewell tour?

Last spring, the formerly feuding Don Henley and Glenn Frey told us they hoped to write more songs together after the tour. In the Nov. 19 issue of Billboard magazine, however, Henley tells editor Timothy White, “I think that after this tour, that’ll be it. . . . Some of the things that broke us apart years ago have not gone away, evidently.”

When questioned by Pop Eye, Henley cautioned against reading too much into the quote. “There has been some occasional strife on this tour, but it has certainly been nothing out of the ordinary or anything that wasn’t expected at the outset,” he noted.

His Billboard interview, he continued, was “not a good day for me. That morning I was informed . . . that my home on Mulholland Drive--the house that I painstakingly built over a period of three years and have lived in since 1979--would have to be completely demolished because of extensive earthquake damage.”

At the same time, Henley was making no promises to the Eagles beyond the tour, which resumes in January following a break caused by Frey’s emergency stomach surgery. The operative term, Henley says, of post-tour projects continues to be: “We’ll see.”

Meanwhile, Irving Azoff, Henley’s manager, is looking into a possible European Eagles swing after the U.S. shows, which include a stop Jan. 21 at the Rose Bowl.
