An Anaheim man working as a clerk in a convenience store was shot to death during a robbery, police said.

Mahfouz Ghabour, 42, was shot shortly after 12:30 p.m. Friday when two young men with shaved heads entered the store and demanded money in the cash register, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Angie McLaughlin.

In security camera videotape, Ghabour appeared to be handing over the money when one of the men shot him in the chest, McLaughlin said. The two men then ran outside and with two other men, also with shaved heads, and drove away in a 1988 to 1991 gray Pontiac sedan with a metallic blue roof, she said.

McLaughlin said police do not know what prompted the robber to shoot Ghabour.

“From looking at the (security) videotape, (Ghabour) looked like he was doing what he was supposed to,” she said. “The suspect was pointing and reaching for something, then the screen clicks and you can’t see if he got the money.”

Ghabour was pronounced dead at Brea Community Hospital just after 1 p.m., McLaughlin said.

The four men are also suspected of robbing another convenience store in West Covina nine minutes later, she said. No one was injured in that robbery.
