Texas Tech Blanks Houston, 34-0, Moves Closer to Cotton Bowl Berth
Texas Tech, which has never represented the Southwest Conference in the Cotton Bowl, is the frontrunner to go after defeating Houston, 34-0, on Saturday.
Texas Tech, which has been in the SWC since 1960, last played in the Cotton Bowl in 1939, taking on St. Mary’s of California.
The Red Raiders, 6-4 overall and 4-2 in the SWC, will go to the Cotton Bowl with a victory over Texas Christian next Saturday or with a combination of outcomes of other SWC games.
The Red Raiders had little trouble handling the Cougars (1-9, 1-5) at the Alamodome. Byron Hanspard led Tech, rushing for 109 yards and scoring two touchdowns. It was Hanspard’s third 100-yard game of the season.
