PREP ROUNDUP : Dana Hills Advances in Tournament
Mike Hutchens scored 15 points and Donald Meyers had 10 points as Dana Hills beat Mojave Valley (Ariz.) River Valley, 66-47, in the first round of the Matador Classic Monday in Bullhead City, Ariz.
Dana Hills (3-3) was called for 38 fouls and had four players foul out. The Dolphins outscored River Valley, 16-9, in the third quarter to open a 46-31 lead.
In the first round of the Encinitas San Dieguito Mitchell tournament:
Santa Margarita 95, Las Vegas El Dorado 55--The ninth-ranked Eagles (8-0) remained undefeated, led by Allen Krist’s 20 points. Brendan Mulligan added 16 points and Nick Maroutsos 14. J.C Timmons grabbed 10 rebounds and scored nine points.

In a nonleague game:
Aliso Niguel 65, Rancho Alamitos 39--Tim Bragassa and Jason Mulkay each scored 12 points to lead host Aliso Niguel (4-5), which won for the first time in its new gym.
In the Las Vegas Basic High Silverado girls’ tournament:
Canyon 55, Green Valley 25--The Comanches (5-3) had 41 steals in their first-round victory. Sarah Spjut had eight points, 10 rebounds and nine steals, and Dawn Brown had nine points and nine steals. Robynn Kuhlmann scored a game-high 12 points.
In pool play at the Villa Park tournament:
University 53, Rancho Alamitos 28--Monique Mathews had 14 points and 12 rebounds for University, which plays Cypress today.
Edison 56, Cypress 26--Marie Philman scored 13 points and had 10 rebounds to lead Edison (5-2). Kerry O’Bric also scored 13 points and handed out five assists for the Chargers.
In the La Puente tournament:
La Habra 47, El Monte Arroyo 37--Jo Berchtold led La Habra (4-3) with 24 points and Amy Lien scored eight points and grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds.
In a nonleague game:
Estancia 68, Loara 27--Karla Dominguez scored 17 points and Cyndi Richards added 14 points and six rebounds to lead Estancia (7-2).
In the Simi Valley girls’ soccer tournament:
Capistrano Valley 2, Camarillo 1--Jen Tomczik and Karen Velton scored for Capistrano Valley (8-2).
