Notes about your surroundings

* Holiday Parking--For those who want to try out new bikes, fall off in-line skates or take a post-meal stroll, county regional park facilities will be open today. However, the parks will be closed on Monday, the official county holiday.

* Craig Regional Park: This 124-acre park includes a fishing lake, three miles of hiking and biking trails and two playgrounds. Volleyball and basketball courts available. The park entrance is in Fullerton at 3300 N. State College Blvd., south of the Imperial Highway.

* Huntington Central Park: The park offers 300 acres of tree-covered hiking and biking trails and picnic areas. There’s also a Frisbee golf course, horseshoe pits and a fitness course. The park is in Huntington Beach, with entrances on Edwards, Golden West and Gothard streets, and Slater and Talbert avenues.

* Irvine Regional Park: This is a 477-acre park with a lagoon and an array of hiking, biking and equestrian trails. You’ll find volleyball courts, horseshoe pits and plenty of room for roaming. The park entrance is in Orange on Jamboree Road north of E. Chapman Avenue.

* Laguna Niguel Regional Park: This 174-acre park is chock-full of fun. A large, stocked fishing lake is surrounded by hiking and biking trails. Also try out the four tennis courts. The park entrance is at 28241 La Paz Road, four miles west of Interstate 5.

* Mile Square Regional Park: This is a 340-acre park with more than 10 miles of hiking and bike trails. There are two fishing lakes, tennis and racquetball courts and several playgrounds. A favorite spot for motorized model airplanes and model car enthusiasts. The park entrance is in Fountain Valley on Euclid Avenue between Edinger and Warren avenues.

* William R. Mason Regional Park: This 95-acre park offers a nine-acre fishing lake that’s also the local watering hole for model sail-boating. Other facilities include a Frisbee golf course, biking and hiking trails and playgrounds. The park is in Irvine at University and Culver drives.
