COLLEGE SIGNINGS : Mater Dei Lineman Matt Motherway Picks Stanford
Mater Dei’s Matt Motherway, The Times Orange County lineman of the year, has made an oral commitment to attend Stanford, Dede Motherway, his mother, said Tuesday.
Motherway, a 6-foot-4, 264-pound offensive lineman, committed Sunday during his official visit. He had visits scheduled for UCLA and Colorado.
This past season, Motherway was a big reason the Monarchs won the Southern Section Division I championship. He anchored an offensive line that averaged 257 pounds.
The linemen wore down Los Alamitos in a 28-24 victory in the semifinals and then manhandled top-seeded La Puente Bishop Amat, 28-21, in the championship game.
Motherway is the youngest of four sons. All were linemen at Mater Dei; two played at UCLA and another at Princeton.
Motherway was a starter since midway through his sophomore season and a two-time All-South Coast League selection. He also played on the defensive line this season.
