Trained relief workers from Orange County are among the nearly 3,000 American Red Cross volunteers who assisted or continue to assist flood victims in Northern and Central California.

The local volunteers include Lois Carmona of Buena Park and Diane Vandenburg of Anaheim Hills, who delivered emergency food and water supplies in Fresno; John Sayer of Anaheim, who is working at a disaster shelter in San Francisco; Cindy Hughes of Garden Grove, who is helping with communications in Sacramento, and Frank Ramirez of Anaheim, who is helping with family services in Santa Barbara.

Red Cross spokeswoman Judy Iannaccone said the volunteers must make at least a weeklong commitment when they are sent to disaster areas.

“In many cases people have to take vacations to do this,” Iannaccone said. “It’s a real commitment, that’s for sure.”
