PREP SOFTBALL ROUNDUP : Arnold, Kennedy Walk 25 but Pitch No-Hitters

Pitchers Amber Arnold of St. Margaret’s and Merin Kennedy of Capistrano Valley Christian walked a total of 25 batters, but each pitched no-hitters as the St. Margaret’s defeated Capistrano Valley Christian, 5-2, in an Academy League softball game Friday at St. Margaret’s.

Arnold issued 12 walks for the Tartans (4-6, 2-1) and Kennedy walked 13 and hit two batters for the Eagles (3-8-1, 0-3).

In Golden West League softball:

Rosary 7, Ocean View 5--Rosary scored four runs in the first inning as the Royals upset No. 5 Ocean View.

Laura Fulton went four for four with a home run, two runs scored and two runs batted in for Rosary (10-5, 5-2). Julie Luna added two hits and one RBI. Tracy Wilkinson hit her second home run of the year for Ocean View (6-2-1, 4-2-1).

Saddleback 3, Tustin 1--Linsey Buendia gave up a run in the top of the first inning, but her Saddleback teammates gave her three in the bottom half and she settled down and held Tustin scoreless the rest of the way to even her record at 5-5.

In the first-round of the Canyon softball tournament:

El Dorado 3, Magnolia 0--Kelli Tom pitched a one-hitter to improve her record to 6-3 for El Dorado (8-5), with seven strikeouts.

Katella 4, Corona 3 (8 innings)--Michelle Bye hit two home runs, accounting for Katella’s first three runs, and Mandy Vanderberg singled in the eighth to drive in the winning run. Katella came back from a 3-1 disadvantage in the sixth inning.

Orange 5, Valencia 2--Alison Bond went the distance, improving her record to 3-0 and Dara Marzolo went two for three with a double, two runs scored and one RBI for Orange (5-4). Valencia is now 5-6.
