PREP ROUNDUP : Error Helps Brea Beat Irvine in Softball

Susan Shuplock reached base on an error and scored the winning run on a bases-loaded walk to Angie Thompson in the bottom of the eighth, helping Brea Olinda to a 1-0 victory over Irvine Saturday in the semifinals of the Brea Olinda Tournament.

Geney Orris (6-5) struck out six and gave up six hits in the shutout. The Wildcats (11-8) will play Whittier La Serna in the May 6 final at Brea Olinda High.

In another tournament game:

Orange 3, Diamond Bar 0--Alison Bond gave up two hits and Katie Huber had two hits and a run scored for visiting Orange (7-8) in the consolation round.

In the Canyon Team Tennis Challenge:

Diamond Bar 37, Sunny Hills 33--Diamond Bar defeated Sunny Hills in the championship final to win its third consecutive Canyon Team Challenge Title.

In Golden West League baseball:

Servite 10, Westminster 3--Rocky Berlanga had three RBIs and two sacrifices and Greg Shaia hit a home run in the first to highlight an 11-hit attack for host Servite (11-9, 5-4) in the victory over seventh-ranked Westminster (15-5, 7-2). Brian Greene gave up four hits in six innings to earn the victory for the Friars.

In the Sunset League:

Huntington Beach 2, Esperanza 1--With one out in the top of the ninth, Chris Hanson singled in Luis Santos and Jason Bartusiak for visiting Huntington Beach.

Esperanza rallied in the bottom of the inning. Brian Kaylor singled in Anthony Colacion, but the Aztecs (8-10, 3-6) left the tying run on second base.
