Ventura County’s agricultural community hopes to collect more than $30,000 in coming weeks to support the county council of the Boy Scouts of America.

A total of 33 growers and shippers have donated two truckloads of produce, weighing about 80,000 pounds, to generate cash for local Boy Scout programs.

The trucks, made available by Sunkist Growers and Martrac, a division of UPS, were loaded late last month at Boskovich Farms in Oxnard. The produce was shipped to the East Coast to be sold at the highest possible price.

The farm group, known as Ventura County Agriculture for Scouting, raised $20,000 for the Scouts last year.

This year, allied industries such as box makers, chemical companies, truck dealers and fuel suppliers have joined the effort. The drive is headed by Joe Boskovich of Boskovich Farms.
