CYPRESS : Flood-Channel Crash Is Fatal to Man, 20
A 20-year-old Cypress man was killed early Monday when he lost control of his car and rolled into a flood-control channel.
Eric Vaughn Gutknecht died just before 4 a.m. after he made a U-turn at a high rate of speed while traveling east on Sunflower Avenue near the Avenue of the Arts, Lt. Robert Chavez said.
Gutknecht’s car struck the curb on Sunflower and continued through a nearby chain-link fence, before dropping 15 feet into a flood-control channel, police said.
Gutknecht, who did not appear to be wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the car and pinned beneath the overturned roof.
