PREP ROUNDUP : Santa Margarita Golfers Assault Par, Defeat Irvine

Santa Margarita had three players shoot par or better Wednesday at Coto de Caza to beat Irvine, 180-225, in a Sea View League golf match.

Sophomore Craig Kelly led the way with a three-under 33. He had three birdies and hit all nine greens in regulation. Stephan Wagner shot 34 and Brian Walley had 36. Nick Fritz (38) and Jimmy Dunn (39) completed Santa Margarita’s scoring five. The Eagles are 15-0, 9-0 in league.

In the South Coast League:

San Clemente 371, Mater Dei 391--Jason Gross was the medalist with a three-under 69 at Pacific Country Club. Gross’ score was a school record for San Clemente (12-3, 7-2).

In Empire League boys’ track:

Century 133, Kennedy 9--Danny Vasquez won the high jump (6-8) and long jump (21-1) and Luis Cota won the 100 (11.5) and 200 (23.6) for host Century.

In the Golden West League:

Tustin 81, Servite 51--Reggie Curry won four events as Tustin (4-1) clinched at least a tie for first in league. Curry took first in the 100 (11.0), the 200 (23.6), the long jump (20-9) and the triple jump (44-11).

In the Sunset League:

Esperanza 99, Fountain Valley 34--Steven Sherwood won the high jump (6-6) and the triple jump (41-3 1/2) for Esperanza.

In Golden West League girls’ track:

Rosary 78, Tustin 44--Marisa Perez won the 1,600 meters (5:49), the 880 yards (2:36.3) and the shotput (29-7 1/2) for Rosary. Carolyn Mullins took two events, winning the 100 (13.3) and the 200 (28.0.).

In the Sunset League:

Esperanza 94, Fountain Valley 42--Kristy Kierluff won the 100 (12.8), high jump (5-4) and long jump (17-2 1/2) as Esperanza remained undefeated at 9-0.

In Freeway League boys’ swimming:

Buena Park 113, La Habra 70--Gregg Petrisevac placed first in four events for Buena Park (8-1, 5-0). Petrisevac won in the 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and anchored the victorious 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay teams.

In Garden Grove League volleyball:

Garden Grove 3, Los Amigos 0--Mike Blackner had 13 kills and Thien Nguyen had 22 assists for Garden Grove (12-2, 9-1), which won, 15-7, 15-1, 15-1.

La Quinta 3, Santiago 0--Dino Dukovic had six kills to lead La Quinta (12-2, 9-1), 15-4, 15-3, 15-3.

In the Golden West League:

Westminster 3, Servite 0--Westminster moves into a tie for third with Servite (4-3 in league) with a 15-11, 17-15, 15-13 victory. Tim Holmes had 20 kills and David Becker added 13 for Westminster (8-4, 4-3). Teammate Todd Mann added 41 assists.

Tustin 3, Santa Ana 0--Alan Hoang had 14 kills as No. 5 Tustin (10-1, 7-0) easily beat Santa Ana, 15-1, 15-2, 15-4.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Laguna Beach 3, University 0--Dan Styles had 14 kills to lead top-ranked Laguna Beach (11-1, 7-1), 15-1, 15-0, 15-3.

In the Sunset League:

Huntington Beach 3, Esperanza 2--The eighth-ranked Aztecs took No. 4 Huntington Beach (12-1, 6-1) to five games, before the Oilers got the 15-10, 16-14, 12-15, 10-15, 15-9 victory.
