AUTO RACING : Price Pays the Penalty, Cromsigt Gets Victory

Share

The street stock main event at Saugus Speedway turned into a destruction derby that featured five yellow flags and an angry exchange between drivers.

Tensions reached the boiling point when Mike Price of San Pedro rear-ended Hector Cruz of Sun Valley on Lap 17.

Earlier, Price was battling with Gerrit Cromsigt for the lead when Cruz refused to move over.

The two got tangled up in Turn 4 and Price fell back to 11th place.

After Price hit Cruz from behind, Price lost control of his car and went barreling into the pit area.

Race officials penalized him a lap for the move.

“This guy didn’t have the sense to get out of the leaders’ way,” Price said. “He should have got out of the damn way.”

Cromsigt, who won the 25-lap race, added: “It’s unfortunate that happened. I would have liked to have raced Price to the end. But hey, it was a rough night. When you have an inverted start with the slow cars at the front and the fast cars in the rear, they’re going to meet in the middle.”

In the pure stock 15-lap main event, Amy Horst won for the second time this season.

Horst alternates driving with her brother, Brian, and they have combined for three fast times and three trophy dash victories.
